At the moment there are about 60 years’ worth of uranium left. However, if electricity generation from nuclear grows steadily, this figure will fall, to the point where if all the world’s electricity were generated with nuclear, we’d have around 3 years’ supply left.
ALLOTMENTS IN BUXTON
There's a terrible shortage of allotments in Buxton. All the sites have long waiting lists, you could be waiting ten years to get your own plot. All very depressing, and one reason we set up the landshare scheme.
We've also been helping High Peak Borough Council identify where land can be turned over for use as allotments - more on this we hope in due course. But meanwhile, there are parts of the Fairfield site that had become so overgrown and derelict that they couldn't be used. Our team of volunteers has been out clearing them of decades of accumulated rubbish, and the first plots are now on offer to folks on the waiting list.
You can watch a short film of the first clearing party here.
There's more to be done, if you could find time to help with this project, please get in touch with Charles.
