SERPENTINE WORKING PARTY

Date:
29 June, 2014 - 10:00 - 16:00
SUNDAY 29TH JUNE, 10AM-4PM
WORKING PARTY
SERPENTINE NURSERY, OFF BURLINGTON ROAD

Our first Volunteer Day. We'll be working on the strip of land alongside the greenhouses, so the work needed to refurbish them can be assessed. There's lots of old plant pots, hidden in among the trees and undergrowth, which all needs clearing out. If you can help out, for all or part of the day, please get in touch with Janine.

You'll need to bring gloves and sturdy footwear, and if you can bring your own tools (bow saw, loppers, secateurs) that would be very helpful. There will be water available to drink, and soup and bread on offer at lunchtime, but feel free to bring your own additions to share.

Grow your Own workshop 15 June 214

Good compost is key to thriving garden, it's zero-carbon (possibly even carbon-negative), free, and has positive ecological benefits.

Building up soil organic matter helps retain moisture and improve drainage, improves retention of nutrients, and even makes them more acessible to plant roots. Micro-fauna & flora populations are increased and these provide the basis of a rich food web where invertebrate numbers are boosted which provide meals for birds, hedgehogs and amphibians.

There's an incredible variety of pies and pasties in the world - from cornish pasties, traditional shepherd's pies or apple crumbles to empanadas, spring rolls, samosas or Greek baklava.
