Transition Buxton CIC is delighted to have recently donated monies earned from their recycling scheme to Connex Community Support. Transition Buxton maintains sets of ‘Hard to Recycle’ bins around the town (e.g. in Morrisons and Sainsburys) for items that can’t go in Council wheely bins or the plastics bins in supermarkets. The waste passed onto recycling organisation Terracycle allows them to make periodic donations to charities.
Veronica Hawthorn of Transition Buxton said ‘We were pleased to donate £120 to Connex Community Support as we recognize the valuable work they undertake in our local community helping those facing isolation, mobility difficulties and the need for short-term practical support’.
Julia Jackson-Clarke, Connex Chief Executive said ‘Donations like this strengthen the lifelines so many in our community rely on. Transition Buxton’s support means more people can stay connected through befriending calls and visits, access safe and affordable transport to essential appointments, receive home‑from‑hospital and wellbeing support as they recover, and temporarily hire wheelchairs or mobility equipment when illness or injury disrupts everyday life.’
Transition Buxton CIC is a group of local people taking steps to increase our resilience and the sustainability of our community. The Community Enterprise Company’s activities include running the monthly Buxton Repair Cafe, Buxton Library of Things, looking after the dispersed Community Orchard, undertaking energy surveys of homes, and supports businesses and community groups in reducing their use of single use plastic, and more.
If you want to help Transition Buxton or Connex to make a difference locally, there are many ways to help either or both groups: you can volunteer your time, support activities/services, or make a donation to help sustain the organisations.
