When you visit the Recycling Centre do you find yourself eyeing up things others have thrown away and thinking you’d like to take them home? Some Household Recycling Centres now have Re-use Shops to reduce unrecyclable waste with the proceeds going to local good causes. Indeed, if the planning permission is granted, we will be getting a Re-use Shop at Waterswallows this summer. In the meantime, Transition Buxton CIC has teamed up with Suez Ltd (who run the Recycling centre on behalf of Derbyshire County Council) to bring a Pop Up Re-Use Shop to Buxton Spring Fair on Monday 4th May.
The team at Waterswallows have been putting aside anything they reckon is re-usable for a few weeks and now there is nearly a full container of great stuff looking for new homes. The Transition Buxton volunteers will be selling crockery, toys, baskets, sports equipment, all sorts of stuff including a few children’s bikes for car boot prices on their stall as part of one of the biggest annual community events in Buxton.
“Keeping things in use as long as possible is better for the planet and better for our budgets. That’s why we run the Library of Things and monthly Buxton Repair Café, and our Pop-Up Re-Use Shop at Spring Fair is another way to reduce our collective carbon footprint. Be prepared to be impressed with the range and good condition of things looking for a new home and pick up a bargain with the added benefit of saving something from going to waste.” said Jean Ball from Transition Buxton CIC.
